There are a maximum of seven continents -  Asia ,  Africa , North America ,  South America,  Antarctica ,  Europe ,   Australia /Oceania . Many geographers and scientists now refer to six continents, where  Europe  and  Asia  are combined (because they're one solid landmass). There are four named oceans: the  Pacific ,   Atlantic ,    Indian , and Arctic . However, most countries - including the United States - now recognize the Southern (Antarctic) as the fifth ocean. The  Pacific ,  Atlantic , and  Indian  are known as the three major oceans.
